Information Technology      

The fundamental mission of the Computer Services Department is to provide computing services to meet the administrative computing needs of the College. Those services include management support, systems development and programming, operational services and consulting. Other activities consist of hardware and software procurement advice and assistance, systems administration, security control, and database management. Other services involve client-training and assistance by way of periodic tutorials and seminars, as well as through the formulation and distribution of guidelines, standards and other documentation for software and hardware.

Mr. Earnest L. Mitchell, III, currently serves as Lane College’s Associate Vice President of Information Technology. Mr. Mitchell is responsible for technology operations across campus, supporting students, faculty and staff. Mr. Mitchell also oversees the network security for the campus, LAN and WAN configurations, and all other activities as they relate to campus technology.

In his time spent at Lane, Mr. Mitchell as served the College in various capacities, including Director of Computing Services and Director of Information Technology. Prior to being employed by Lane College, Mr. Mitchell owned and operated a computer store and worked as a technical consultant.

Mr. Mitchell has extensive training in the use of RPG, Cobol, Advanced Cobol, and other programming language. His knowledge has been of great value to the College.
