About Vice President of Academic Affairs
Dr. Michelle Curtain has been named the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Curtain officially took office on July 1, 2014.
Dr. Curtain received her Bachelorís degree in Political Science from Alcorn State University, her Masterís in Sociology and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Indiana University-Bloomington. She came to Lane College in 2007 as an Assistant Professor of Sociology. Prior to joining Lane College, she served as Executive Director of the International Association for the Study of the Commons, working in numerous countries around the world. During her international career, she organized over two dozen international meetings and academic workshops, drawing participants from 50 different nations. She raised millions of dollars in funding to develop and sustain natural environmental projects and publications in local communities around the world. Dr. Curtain has also taught at Indiana University (IU) and served as a Research Associate on a joint project between IU, the National Institute of Mental Health and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Her research focus is on issues related to urban education, sexism and racism, and the family. She is currently working on a Black Male Project examining the relationships that black men have with their fathers. She is a member of the Association of Black Sociologists, an ex-officio board member for the International Association for the Study of the Commons, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and proud mother of one son.
