 Lane College’s Business and Finance is responsible for the general financial oversight of the College. The Business and Finance Department is responsible for several areas of the College which includes: Accounting, Cashier Student Accounts, Bookstore/Copy Center/Incubator, Food Services, Human Resources, Switchboard/Mailroom, Federal Program Compliance, Financial Aid, Payroll and Purchasing Department. The primary goal of the Business and Finance Department is to ensure all financial policies and protocols are followed, financial reports are submitted, student accounts are reconciled, and to keep the President abreast of all financial matters directly related to the College.
Mr. Melvin Hamlett, Sr., serves as the Vice President for Business and Finance here at Lane College. Mr. Hamlett is responsible for working closely with all vice presidents to monitor, analyze and assess the operating budget and perform long-term and short-term fiscal forecasting. Mr. Hamlett has served the College through four institutional self-studies of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
In his tenure, Mr. Hamlett has performed several functions during his tenure at Lane College. Mr. Hamlett has serviced a Chief Account and Assistant Business Manager and Director of Financial Aid. Mr. Hamlett is extensively involved in the profession attending continuous workshops for college business officer, as well as others sponsored by US Department of Education.
Mr. Hamlett has extensive experience as derived by active participation in professional groups and organizations. Mr. Hamlet has been an active participation in the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Southern and National Association of College and University Business Officers. Mr. Hamlett has also served on several external accrediting teams for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 2004.
