Stacey Buchannon

Stacey Buchannon is geared up for her fourth season as the Head Coach in both Volleyball and Women’s Basketball. In the 2009-10 season, Buchannon guided the Lady Dragons to one of its most successful season of the past decade. Buchannon joined the athletic staff at Lane College in 2007 as Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. In 2008, she assumed dual responsibilities as the Head Coach of Women’s Basketball and Volleyball teams.

Buchannon was born in High Point, North Carolina and attended High Point Central High School where she was a multiple-sport athlete lettering in basketball, volleyball, softball as well as track and field. In her senior year, Buchannon led her high school varsity basketball team to a perfect season---31-0; a 3-A State Championship; and was named to the All-State, All-Regional teams and named Conference Player of the Year. Also, she was selected to the North Carolina East All-Star Team and South All-American Honorable Mention. Buchannon received numerous athletic awards and accolades in various sports during her high school years in North Carolina.

Buchannon began her collegiate career at Georgia Institute of Technology where she played NCAA Division I basketball for two years as a full scholarship recipient. She was named Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball’s first ever ACC Rookie of the Week. After her sophomore season, Buchannon subsequently transferred to the former Queens College now Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC where she played out her career. While at Queens College, Buchannon received honors of Player of the Week, All-Conference, and All-Tournament in the Queens College Tip-off Classic as well as Augusta State Courtyard Classic. Also, she served as team captain. While completing her degree, she served as the student-assistant coach.

After graduating from Queens College in 1999 with a B.A. degree in Business Administration, Buchannon continued her education and worked in basketball as a graduate assistant at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia. Buchannon served as a court director at Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball Summer Camps for 10 years. She spent two summers as an assistant AAU 15 & under girls coach for the Smyrna Stars.
