Jackson, Tenn (June 3, 2020) - Lane College is proud to announce the recent appointment of Lane Lady Dr. Vivian Cawthon Williams to Deputy Superintendent of Academics, Schools, and Students for the Jackson-Madison County School System. Dr. Williams currently serves as the Chief of Student Support and Improvement.
“I am deeply honored to be selected for this position and passionate about working collaboratively across our system to meet the needs of students,” Dr. Williams said. “I look forward to working with Dr. King and other leaders to continue providing quality educational experiences for all students,” Dr. Williams said.
After spending 10 years as a classroom teacher, Dr. Williams was appointed principal of Whitehall Elementary School and later became principal of Northeast Middle School.
Dr. Williams transitioned to central office leadership in 2009 to serve as Leader of Special Education. Dr. Williams has served the district in several other positions since that time; including Chief Academic Officer, and Leader of Special Education & Special Projects.
Dr. Williams, a graduate of Jackson Central Merry High School, continued her education by earning an undergraduate degree in secondary education from Lane College, a Masters of Education in elementary and special education from the University of Memphis, an administrative leadership certification from Freed-Hardeman University, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Supervision from Union University in 2004.
