On Friday, September 4, 2020, Lane College announced that it will close the residence halls and cease in-person classes and activities until September 21, 2020 upon receiving information that a cluster of students tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, there are 18 students who have tested positive for COVID-19. Pursuant to the local and state health departments and CDC guidelines, each person in contact with the infected person must quarantine for 14 days. The College does not have sufficient space to quarantine all persons who may have been in contact with the positive case. Out of an abundance of caution and to prevent a widespread outbreak, the College will close its residence halls until September 21. Positive contacts will quarantine in the residence halls on campus.

Lane College will be closed in observance of Labor Day. Students will not return to the residence halls until September 21, 2020. Before students return to the residence halls on September 21, the College will announce its COVID-19 protocols going forward. In-person classes will convert to online on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

While this is sudden news and something we do not want to occur, the risk to our campus and community is too great. During this difficult time, we encourage our community to continue to WWSS – Wear your mask, Wash your hands, Social distance and Self-Check.
