Lane College is delighted to introduce Dr. Ala’Torya V. Cranford as its new Interim Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. With nearly 15 years of unwavering dedication to higher education, Dr. Cranford brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to student success, a commitment that she is eager to extend to Lane College.
Dr. Cranford’s career in higher education commenced at Paine College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her journey led her to serve in various key positions at her alma mater, culminating in her role as Director of Student Activities and then Director of Alumni Relations. She further honed her skills at Fort Valley State University, Southern University and A&M College, and most recently, as the Executive Director of the Freshman Academy and Honors Program at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University.“
Dr. Cranford has a proven track record leading programs that elevate student experience and support student success,” said Interim President of Lane College, Dr. Donald W. Comer. “Dr. Cranford’s deep professional experience will enhance how we support our students’ holistic well-being and intellectual growth.”
Dr. Cranford’s contributions extend beyond administrative roles. She has actively participated in several professional organizations and presented at over 25 higher education, industry and nonprofit conferences and gatherings. Among her recent accomplishments, Dr. Cranford was appointed UNCF National Alumni Council Vice President of Programs for three consecutive years. Her leadership and impact were recognized when she served as workshops chair for the UNCF NAC/NPAC Leadership Conference and Alumni Summit, a testament to her inspiring success in the field of higher education.
Dr. Cranford has received several awards for her contributions to higher education. She earned her Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education from Jackson State University and a Master of Science in Higher Education from Walden University, qualifications that underscore her expertise and make her a confident choice for the role of Interim Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Lane College.
