Jackson, TN — Lane College is proud to announce a transformative $150,000 investment from the State of Tennessee to expand and enhance the College’s Wellness Program. The check was presented by State Representative Johnny Shaw (D-Bolivar-80) to Lane College President Dr. Donald W. Comer during a special ceremony on campus Monday morning.
This generous state funding was secured by Rep. Shaw through his steadfast and tenacious advocacy for Lane College in the Tennessee General Assembly. It will be used exclusively to advance holistic health and wellness initiatives for Lane students, faculty, and staff.

“I’m quite proud to have been able to secure the $150,000 investment from the State of Tennessee to support Lane College’s Wellness Program, promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being through enhanced indoor and outdoor activities. This investment reflects the State’s and Lane’s commitment to student health and success,” said Shaw.
The $150,000 investment will focus on three strategic wellness spaces:
- Renovating the College’s football practice field into a multi-use shared space for intramurals and student wellness activities
- Constructing a new outdoor volleyball facility to increase recreational offerings
- Installing wellness zones around the campus Pond featuring peaceful outdoor areas for reflection, stress relief, and relaxation
These enhancements are designed to encourage physical fitness, mental wellness, and emotional resilience while strengthening student engagement and quality of life. The wellness initiative directly supports Lane College’s six strategic pillars:
- Academic Success – Promoting well-being to enhance academic performance
- Community Engagement – Creating healthy spaces for connection
- Experiential Learning – Offering hands-on leadership and wellness experiences
- Differential Advantage – Delivering a distinctive, student-centered campus culture
- Financial Vitality – Supporting student success
- Strategic Enrollment – Attracting and retaining students through enriched campus life
“Thanks to Representative Shaw’s leadership and vision, Lane College is taking a bold step forward in creating a campus culture that prioritizes wellness in every form,” said Lane College President Donald W. Comer. “This funding will allow us to expand access to wellness resources and build a healthier, more vibrant community.”
