Families of Current Students

We love to partner with parents and families throughout a student’s educational journey. Typically, prospective parents and the parents of new students have a lot of questions. But parents of current students may also have questions, and we are here to help.

For most of us, the college years represent a unique stage of parenting. It is often full of incredible rewards as you see your student take the next step in his or her life and Lane is always proud to be a part of that transformation, liberation, and celebration.

However, it can also be a new time of challenges and concerns that you may have never faced before. Maybe your student has received an academic or disciplinary sanction or is stressed over a recent event. Maybe your student is ready to graduate, and you need more information on our commencement ceremonies. Whatever the problem, we would like to help.

There are things that we can talk to parents about and there are other things where your student will need to sign a waiver.

We can always talk to you about campus-wide concerns and provide additional information about events, policies, and campus procedures. We try to include a lot of this information on our website and as part of our official Facebook page to keep parents informed, but you can always email us at admissions@lanecollege.edu and we will try to answer any question that we can.

Some specific information on your student is protected by federal law and we cannot talk about that information without a waiver from your student. This information includes things like their grades or details of their financial aid. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of educational records of our students with anyone other than the student’s choosing. Lane is restricted to discussing many circumstances with your student. If you want to speak with us about your student’s grades, attendance, or specific circumstances, please have a conversation with your student. They can sign a FERPA waiver that will allow us to speak with you. FERPA waivers are available in our Office of the Registrar.

Gathering resources on a college can be a daunting task so we’ve made it a little easier. Here’s a list of resources that parents of current students use often. Please take some time to learn about the campus resources that help your student navigate the challenges and successes of college life. If you don’t see what you are looking for, we’re just a call or email away. Contact us at admissions@lanecollege.edu or call us at 731-426-7533.
